APA joins national advocacy campaign to Electrify Australia

The Australian Passivhaus Association (APA) has joined more than 30 consumer, business, industry, research and civil society organisations in the national Electrify Australia advocacy campaign.

The campaign calls for stronger policy action to accelerate electrification across Australian households, commercial buildings, transport, agriculture, industry and resources, supported by clear policy signals, effective regulation and targeted incentives.

For APA, joining the campaign is a natural extension of our ongoing policy and advocacy work to improve building performance across Australia.

APA continues to advocate for stronger building standards, greater recognition of the Passivhaus standard, improved energy efficiency, and policies that deliver healthier, more comfortable, resilient and lower-energy buildings.

Electrification is an important part of Australia’s transition, but electrification and building performance must go hand in hand.

Bringing building performance into the national policy conversation

For APA, Australia’s electrification transition presents an important opportunity to ensure building performance becomes a central part of energy and climate policy.

Our advocacy will continue to focus on strengthening the connection between energy policy, building regulation and measurable building performance, while advocating for greater recognition of the Passivhaus standard as Australia works towards a more efficient, resilient and electrified built environment.

The goal should not simply be to electrify inefficient buildings. It should be to reduce energy demand first and create buildings that perform better for the people who live and work in them.
