Situated in the heart of The Cape eco village of Cape Paterson, this was the first Passivhaus in the estate, featuring a modern style, designed to suit the block and it's surrounds.
The owners had become accustomed to the thoughtful, sustainably designed homes in the region when they approached North South Homes to become involved in their dream of building and living in a Passivhaus.
A Passivhaus fulfilled their needs to have a home encompassing sustainable building practices and running costs while giving them year-round comfort in a healthy living environment.

INTERNAL - Interior features of aesthetic value include gable ceilings in the living room that give a sense of space and openness connecting to the exterior deck. Black Butt flooring has been used as it is a preferred sustainable choice. Flowing from the front entry through the hallway opening up into the open plan living and dining room it adds warmth and texture to a contemporary space. Custom joinery has been designed and built by a locally owned joinery company incorporating sustainable Paperock kitchen benchtops bringing a modern, elegant design the owners were looking for. Bathroom, kitchen and laundry tapware were carefully selected for their WELS rating adding to the overall sustainable building techniques.
EXTERNAL - The decision to go with Spotted Gum Cladding on the majority of the home matches beautifully with the unpredictable nature of the elements as it is a timber that can withstand all kinds of weather conditions, it is highly regenerative as a source of sustainable timber and brings a natural feeling to the build.
The remaining external claddings consist of colourbond express panel in monument colour, barestone cemintel cladding sheets and charcoal coloured concrete filled blockwork. Cypress pine pergolas connect to the natural feel of the cladding and overall raw outlook of the home.

Value for money was an important challenge, taking into account the client's brief, building techniques of Passivhaus construction, the materials, craftmanship, expertise of execution budget.
This home provides a high quality solution in terms of cost, with the long-term benefits of the Passivhaus Standard including much lower energy bills.
