PLEASE ACKNOWLEDGE renewal by continuing education points must be concluded during the validity period of the certificate. 100 CPs (credit points) should be acquired within the 5 years validity period of the previous certificate. 70 of the 100 CPs at the most may be acquired in one of three possible areas (teaching, events or advanced training), according to chapter 5.2.1 of the exam regulations.
Design & Document a Certified Passive House:
You can earn or renew your certificate by submitting project documents for one person per buiilding if you have documented a Certified Passive House, EnerPHit retrofit or PHI Low Energy Building. You must have exercised full responsibility for the building design and the project planning with the PHPP.
The documented building must fulfil these conditions:
1. It has been completed and is being used.
2. The building is a Certified Passive House, EnerPHit retrofit or PHI Low Energy Building.
It must have been certified by an accredited building certifier, according to the criteria developed by the Passive House Institute.
3. The building is listed in the Passive House database
The project documentation can be submitted to any Passive House Institute accredited assessing body for a certain fee. Successful project documentations will be published on the PHI website.
The following information is required:
Application through project documentation (Appendix IIa).
A detailed building description (PDF & Word format). Please check appendix III and use this template.
The PHPP calculation used for the certification, in digital form (unprotected Excel file).
A copy of the building certificate, stating the accredited building certifier.
The ID number under which the building is listed on the Passive House database
If the applicant is not the designer of the building, a written explanation stating that he was responsible for the Passive House relevant planning parts should be sent by the designer.
To get the Passive House Designer title, please send a copy of your educational qualifications
The renewal through project documentation is subject to a fee.
TRADESPERSON

- PointsBuild Short Courses
30 CP's (credit points) must be achieved altogether to renew your Tradesperson Qualification; 20 CPs at the most may be obtained in one of the possible areas (teaching, events or advanced training courses).
The Passive House Institute will check your application for a certain fee and after successful renewal of the certificate, send the certificate in digital form via e-mail. In addition, the contact data of the Certified Tradesperson will remain in the Passive House professionals database if desired. Any further training course that was attended can also be listed there, under the personal details.
Design & Document a Certified Passive House:
You can renew your qualification by documenting your work on a highly energy efficient building or a Certified Passive House Project. This work must meet some technical requirements, which will depend on the trade discipline, as well as on the location and climate of the building.
If the building has not been certified by one of our assessing bodies, please make sure that the energy-relevant criteria for your trade discipline work have been achieved. Because this criteria is specific to the trade discipline, your construction work does not have to be carried out in a Passive House building. Your work documentation can be submitted to any Passive House Institute accredited assessing body for a certain fee.
The documented building must fulfil these conditions:
1. Determine the climate zone
2. Different requirements apply for the different trade disciplines depending on the climate zone. You can select your specific trade discipline with the relevant link:
- Shell construction insulation
- Carpentry work insulation
- Roofing insulation
- Plastering insulation
- Window installation
- Ventilation
- Heating and hot water
- Airtight electrical installations
3. Please send these documents to any Passive House Institute accredited assessment body:

If you attended an event or advanced training: Please fill in the respective event ID number* which can be found on the list of approved courses/events. One learning unit (45 minutes) equates to 1 CP. Don't forget to attach the respective confirmations of participation.
If you gave a course: Please first fill in this formular.
*Can’t find a specific course or event? Please contact us to submit a form to create CP's.
It is best to pack the documents (application form + certificate of participation) and send them directly to designer@passiv.de. If the files are large or there are any problems with sending files via e-mail, you can also use the PHI-FileDrop.
Also in this case, it is necessary to inform Education & Events Executive, Samantha Bruce via email that such an application has been sent to us.
Find out the amount of points & code for any previous or future Continuing Education Events here. Be sure to request a Certifiate of Attendance from Samantha via email to put towards your application as credibility.
