Earn Further Credit Points to Renew Your Certified Qualification!

PLEASE ACKNOWLEDGE renewal by continuing education points must be concluded during the validity period of the certificate. If you have expired then the pathway for renewal is completing a project documentation. Re-sitting the exam is not an option. You can claim a certain amount of PHI Credit Points to go towards renewing your qualification. Here's how:

DESIGNERS/CONSULTANTS

Education Events:
Get credit points by partcipating in relevant Passive House continuing education events or teaching activities;

100 CPs (credit points) should be ac­quired with­in the 5 years val­id­ity peri­od of the pre­vi­ous cer­ti­fic­ate. 70 of the 100 CPs at the most may be ac­quired in one of three pos­sible areas (teach­ing, events or ad­vanced train­ing), ac­cord­ing to chapter 5.2.1 of the ex­am reg­u­la­tions.

Design & Document a Certified Passive House:
You can earn or renew your certificate by submitting project documents for one person per buiilding if you have documented a Certified Passive House, EnerPHit retrofit or PHI Low Energy Building. You must have exercised full responsibility for the building design and the project planning with the PHPP. 

The doc­u­men­ted build­ing must ful­fil these con­di­tions:

1. It has been com­pleted and is be­ing used.
2. The build­ing is a Cer­ti­fied Pass­ive House, En­erPHit ret­ro­fit or PHI Low En­ergy Build­ing.
It must have been cer­ti­fied by an ac­cred­ited build­ing cer­ti­fi­er, ac­cord­ing to the cri­ter­ia de­ve­loped by the Pass­ive House In­sti­tu­te.
3. The build­ing is lis­ted in the Pass­ive House data­base

The pro­ject doc­u­ment­a­tion can be sub­mit­ted to any Passive House Institute ac­cred­ited as­sess­ing body for a cer­tain fee.  Successful project documentations will be published on the PHI website.

The fol­low­ing in­form­a­tion is re­quired:

• Ap­plic­a­tion through pro­ject doc­u­ment­a­tion (Ap­pendix IIa).

• A de­tailed build­ing de­scrip­tion (PDF & Word format). Please check ap­pendix III and use this tem­plate.

• The PHPP cal­cu­la­tion used for the cer­ti­fic­a­tion, in di­git­al form (un­pro­tec­ted Ex­cel file).

•  A copy of the build­ing cer­ti­fic­ate, stat­ing the ac­cred­ited build­ing cer­ti­fi­er.

• The ID num­ber un­der which the build­ing is lis­ted on the Pass­ive House data­base

• If the ap­plic­ant is not the de­sign­er of the build­ing, a writ­ten ex­plan­a­tion stat­ing that he was re­spons­ible for the Pass­ive House rel­ev­ant plan­ning parts should be sent by the de­sign­er.

• To get the Pass­ive House De­sign­er title, please send a copy of your edu­ca­tion­al qual­i­fic­a­tions

The renewal through project documentation is subject to a fee.

TRADESPERSON

Education Events:

30 CP's (credit points) must be achieved al­to­geth­er to re­new your Trades­per­son Qualification; 20 CPs at the most may be ob­tained in one of the pos­sible areas (teach­ing, events or ad­vanced train­ing courses).
The Pass­ive House In­sti­tu­te will check your ap­plic­a­tion for a cer­tain fee and after suc­cess­ful re­new­al of the cer­ti­fic­ate, send the cer­ti­fic­ate in di­git­al form via e-mail. In ad­di­tion, the con­tact data of the Cer­ti­fied Trades­per­son will re­main in the Pass­ive House pro­fes­sion­als data­base if de­sired. Any fur­ther train­ing course that was at­ten­ded can also be lis­ted there, un­der the per­son­al de­tails.
 
Design & Document a Certified Passive House:
You can renew your qualification by documenting your work on a highly energy efficient building or a Certified Passive House Project. This work must meet some tech­nic­al re­quire­ments, which will de­pend on the trade dis­cip­line, as well as on the loc­a­tion and cli­mate of the build­ing.

If the build­ing has not been cer­ti­fied by one of our assessing bodies, please make sure that the en­ergy-rel­ev­ant cri­ter­ia for your trade dis­cip­line work have been achieved. Be­cause this cri­ter­ia is spe­cif­ic to the trade dis­cip­line, your con­struc­tion work does not have to be car­ried out in a Pass­ive House build­ing. Your work doc­u­ment­a­tion can be sub­mit­ted to any Passive House Institute ac­cred­ited as­sess­ing body for a cer­tain fee.

The doc­u­men­ted build­ing must ful­fil these con­di­tions:

1. Determine the climate zone
2. Different requirements apply for the different trade disciplines depending on the climate zone. You can select your specific trade discipline with the relevant link:
- Shell construction insulation
- Carpentry work insulation
- Roofing insulation
- Plastering insulation
- Window installation
- Ventilation
- Heating and hot water
- Airtight electrical installations
3. Please send these documents to any Passive House Institute accredited assessment body:

Tradies you need to sub­mit Ap­pendix II b (Ap­plic­a­tion - re­new­al through cred­it points) & Designers submit  Ap­pendix II b (Ap­plic­a­tion - re­new­al through cred­it points) to the PH In­sti­tu­te:

• If you attended an event or advanced training: Please fill in the re­spect­ive event ID num­ber* which can be found on the list of ap­proved courses/events. One learn­ing unit (45 minutes) equates to 1 CP. Don't forget to attach the respective confirmations of participation.

• If you gave a course: Please first fill in this formular.

*Can’t find a spe­cif­ic course or event? Please contact us to submit a form to create CP's.

It is best to pack the documents (application form + certificate of participation) and send them directly to designer@passiv.de. If the files are large or there are any problems with sending files via e-mail, you can also use the PHI-FileDrop.
Also in this case, it is necessary to inform Education & Events Executive, Samantha Bruce via email that such an application has been sent to us.
